What is a Certified Criminal Law Specialist?

The State Bar of Arizona has a system whereby lawyers in certain practice specialities can apply to be a “certified specialist” by satisfying a series of requirements. These include demonstrating “a high level of experience and a substantially complete knowledge of substantive law and rules of practice, procedure, evidence and ethics.”


Arizona certified specialists in criminal law are required to meet a high degree of competence including the following standards:



As of September, 2014, there were only 91 certified criminal law specialists out of more than 17,000 active members of the Arizona State Bar.
